"A year after the controversy that we raised around a so-called" Black Code "humanity, the work of this French artist can be considered as a positive contribution to the question of post-colonial reparations."
CaribCreoleNews, 04 mai 2016
"François Piquet (...) brings his contribution to the work of memory necessary for an appeasement, and this contribution appears in two directions: it pays homage to these nameless men that it draws from oblivion, and at the same time tends to foster an inter-community public debate, beyond differences of interests and opinions. The "Reparations" exhibition was presented at the Fonds d'Art Contemporain de Guadeloupe in 2016 by François Piquet.
This exhibition, a Carte Blanche An VI project led by the Schoelcher Museum and the Guadeloupe County Council, is remarkable for its quality and the themes addressed. It presents a set of unpublished sculptures, reliquaries, drawings, and video of François Piquet accompanied by some artpieces from the Schoelcher Museum collection. It also includes educational pedagogical workshops.
The very comprehensive 68-page catalog, conceived as a real bibliographic work, with a critical essay by ANO and photos by Charles Chulem-Rousseau, is available in digital format.

Reparations art
Rather than remain petrified by the magnitude of a task at the scale of our contemporary society, this project addresses the painful aspects of this History - which is ours - to repair the conditions of the meeting, to "tinker with the incurable" according to the formula of Mohammed El Baz.
This notion of "Reparations" syncretizes the artistic practice of François Piquet, born and developed in Guadeloupe, with "LE FER & LA PEAU", "NOU", "Equipaje compartido", "les Archipels du moi", "Jean de Souche" and "Utopie de la Libération", projects that all approach the relationship to each other under a dual Caribbean and European lighting, inherited from an atypical career.
The "Reparations" exhibition is formalized around 5 axes:
- A skull without face / Reliquaries
- Reparations / Simulacra
- The factory of black / Moun Brilé
- The School of Beauty / Educational Workshops
- What can be saved
